The 1990-1991 annual report of the Saskatchewan Police Commission describes the Commission's role and activities, police services, and the Saskatechewan Police College.
Abstract
The primary functions of the Commission are to preserve peace and prevent crime and to improve the efficiency of police services and police relations with communities in the province. From April 1990 to March 1991, the period covered by the annual report, the Commission held five regular meetings, made onsite contact with police departments around the province, and gave high priority to crime prevention initiatives. The Commission also received complaints against municipal police officers and members of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. Recruitment was low during the year at the Saskatchewan Police College, but this allowed the College to increase inservice training. A total of 443 candidates from municipal police departments, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, the Canadian National Railway, the Wascana Centre Authority, and the Brandon City Police were trained during the year. Subjects taught to recruits included criminal law, human behavior, criminal justice, communication skills, police procedures, provincial and federal statutes, and practical training. Data on police services and major crime trends are provided. Tables and figures
