A 1989 survey gathered information about major school- based child sexual abuse prevention training programs and curricular projects as well as laws in each of the States pertaining to child sexual abuse and its prevention.
Abstract
The results obtained from 126 prevention programs indicated that most problems are conducted at a local level and offer a prescribed curriculum and resource materials. Together they reach hundreds of thousands of students, parents, teachers, and other school staff. Nearly two-thirds receive State funding assistance, with less than one-third charging the schools. Most were established in the early and mid-1980's and have well-educated staff. In addition, most programs work to meet the needs of students with disabilities and provide a means for the disclosure of sexual abuse. The training formats, duration, and materials vary among programs. Tables and 11 references (Author abstract modified)
