This annual report provides information on crime in schools in Tennessee.
Abstract
Highlights of findings from this report on crime in schools in Tennessee include the following: 2.2 percent of all crime reported by law enforcement agencies statewide for 2011 showed a location code of School, with simple assault the most frequently reported offense; between 2010 and 2011, the reported number of crimes occurring at schools decreased by 5.5 percent, with crimes against persons decreasing by 4.3 percent, crimes against property decreasing by 8.2 percent, and crimes against society decreasing by 3.6 percent; and more crimes occurred on Friday (19.9 percent), and more occurred between 12 pm - 1 pm (11.4 percent. Additional findings provide information on victim-offender relationships, type of weapon used, and average age of both the victim and the offender. This report by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigations provides information about the characteristics of crime in both public and private schools, excluding colleges and universities, in the State. Data for the report were obtained from law enforcement incident reports submitted to the Tennessee Incident Based Reporting System (TIBRS). Tables and figures
