This brochure outlines the basic steps that school and police officials should take in developing a joint approach to problems of school disruption and provides checklists for use in preparing a memorandum of agreement regarding school disruption.
Abstract
Based on a conference sponsored by the Departments of Justice and Health, Education and Welfare, the guidelines emphasize that although school authorities have the most immediate responsibility for identifying potential in-school problems, cooperative planning and communication are required to address all the sources of school disruption. A cooperative effort should emphasize the importance of keeping education going and avoiding unnecessary school closing. The three steps involved in this effort are conducting a needs assessment, developing joint preventive measures, and making specific plans for a disruption. Checklists to be completed by school officials and police agencies and space on which to list contacts
