This article describes the alcohol and drug abuse treatment programs offered by Austin, Texas’s Travis County Counseling and Education Service (TCCES).
Abstract
This article details the many treatment programs offered by the Travis County Counseling and Education Service (TCCES) in Austin, Texas. Created in 1970, the goal of TCCES services is to educate those arrested and/or convicted of alcohol and drug related offenses in Travis County. The goal of the various treatment programs offered by TCCES is to educate offenders concerning the harmful effects of alcohol and drugs on individuals and their families as well as the community in general. The author presents the missions and goals of the many treatment programs that are mandated by the State. Examples of such programs include drug offender education, DWI offender education, alcohol education for minors, and advanced alcohol and drug group program. Generally clients are mandated to attend these treatment programs as a condition of their bond or as a condition of their sentence. Educating such offenders and offering them a system of support is thought to reduce recidivism of drug and alcohol related crimes. References
