This module prepared by the Canadian Correctional Service explains the role of search and frisk procedures in the context of maintaining a safe and positive institutional environment.
Abstract
Comprised of an introduction and sections on institutional security, professional conduct, contraband issues, legal issues, and summary, the module has six major objectives for participants. At the end of the module, they should be able to explain the importance of preserving a safe prison environment; identify the principles required in an effective system of searching cells, areas, persons, vehicles, and deliveries; and identify key components of professional search conduct. Furthermore, participants will be able to explain the importance of respecting personal privacy and dignity during frisk and search activities, to describe types of contraband and methods of concealment, and to discuss major legal issues involved in search and frisk activities.
