DISCUSSION OF JUDICIAL DECISIONS WHICH ESTABLISH REQUIREMENTS FOR AIRPORT SECURITY SEARCHES.
Abstract
DISCUSSION OUTLINES REQUIREMENTS WHICH SECURITY OFFICERS MUST FOLLOW TO MAINTAIN THE CONSTITUTIONALITY OF ANTI-HIJACKING SEARCHES. PROCEDURES INCLUDE RIGID ADHERANCE TO THE 'HIJACKER PROFILE', A LIST OF CHARACTERIZATIONS OF KNOWN HIJACKERS. IN ADDITION TO SELECTION FROM THE 'PROFILE,' SUSPECTS MUST REGISTER A POSITIVE READING ON THE MAGNETOMETER AND BE UNABLE TO FURNISH ACCEPTABLE IDENTIFICATION UPON QUESTIONING. IN THE EVENT THAT THESE CRITERIA ARE NOT MET, LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS WILL BE REQUIRED TO MEET THE 'REASONABLE SUSPICION' OF DANGER CRITERIA FOR A 'STOP AND FRISK.'
