Annotation

The Alberta Gaming Control Branch was created in 1976 by the Attorney General; among its responsibilities are reviewing all gaming applications including background checks on applicant organizations, recommending for or against licensing, inspecting bingo and casino games, conducting audits and investigations of complaints, and taking evidence and preparing court briefs.

Abstract

This chapter reviews data involved in licensing approvals, including numbers of licenses issued, covered gaming events, and gross and net revenues. Aspects of enforcement include number of investigations conducted, number of investigations conducted by event, gender of charged offenders, types of charges, cases processed through court, and persons charged by affiliation. The chapter also examines the overall dollar loss by affiliation as well as recovered proceeds and net loss by gaming type. 12 tables and 14 figures
