HISTORY AND PHILOSOPHY OF SECURITY, LEGAL BASIS FOR GOVERNMENTAL AND PROPRIETARY SECURITY, ORGANIZATIONAL CONCEPTS, AND SECURITY PROCEDURES AND TECHNIQUES.
Abstract
WIDESPREAD APPLICATION OF SECURITY SYSTEMS IN THE PAST FEW YEARS HAS EXCEEDED THE LITERATURE AVAILABLE FOR THOSE WORKING IN THE FIELD OR THOSE WHO WISH TO LEARN MORE ABOUT IT. ALTHOUGH THIS BOOK WAS ORIGINALLY INTENDED AS A TEXT FOR STUDENTS, IT ALSO REPRESENTS A SOURCE DOCUMENT FOR THOSE ALREADY ENGAGED IN SECURITY OPERATIONS AND A REFERENCE WORK FOR ANYONE INVOLVED WITH CRIMINAL JUSTICE ACTIVITIES. THE COMPONENT PARTS OF THE SECURITY FUNCTION AND THE ORGANIZATIONAL CONCEPTS FOR SECURITY ADMINISTRATION ARE SET FORTH. THE SECTION TITLED 'PROGRAMMING SECURITY' PRESENTS THE APPLICATION OF SECURITY COMPONENTS TO INTEGRATED PROGRAMS FOR THE PROTECTION OF BUSINESS, INDUSTRY, AND GOVERNMENT. THE BOOK ALSO DETAILS PROCEDURES AND TECHNIQUES FOR LOSS CONTROL, AREA CONTROL, FIRE PREVENTION, DISASTER PLANNING AND TRAINING AND EDUCATION. APPENDICES INCLUDE MATERIALS ON SECURITY EQUIPMENT AND DEVICES, THE SHOPLIFTING LAWS OF THE UNITED STATES, AND A GLOSSARY OF SECURITY TERMINOLOGY. EACH CHAPTER IS FOLLOWED BY AN EXTENSIVE BIBLIOGRAPHY. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT MODIFIED)
