Abstract
AMONG THE TOPICS EXPLORED IN THIS ARTICLE ARE THE HISTORY AND DEVELOPMENT OF THE WASHINGTON D.C. METRO SYSTEM, THE SAFETY FEATURES INCORPORATED IN THE ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN OF THE FACILITIES, THE SURVEILLANCE SYSTEMS, AND THE PRIVATE METRO SECURITY POLICE. FARE PAYMENT METHODS, SECURITY PRECAUTIONS IN COLLECTING FARE REVENUES, PROTECTION MEASURES AGAINST ACCIDENTAL INJURY OF PASSENGERS, AND EMERGENCY AND FIRE PROCEDURES ARE DISCUSSED AS WELL.
