Abstract
THE MOTIVATIONS AND METHODS OF THE INDIVIDUALS COMMITTING THESE CRIMES ARE CAREFULLY EXAMINED. THE AUTHOR DETAILS THE STEPS THAT CAN BE TAKEN TO DISCOURAGE SUCH THIEVES, RENDER THEIR METHODS UNSUCCESSFUL, PREVENT THEIR ESCAPE, TRACE THEIR IDENTITIES AND, IF NECESSARY, OBTAIN THEIR CONFESSIONS. THE LEGAL LIMITATIONS AND LIABILITIES OF STORE EMPLOYEES IN APPREHENDING SUCH CRIMINALS ARE STRESSED.
