This volume details the author’s experiences as a police officer in India for 36 years and examines issues related to security, espionage, counterintelligence, international law enforcement cooperation, and the corruption of public officials in India.
Abstract
The author was born in 1919. He became a senior uniformed police officer, a member of the criminal investigation department, a diplomat and First Secretary in the Indian Embassy in the United States, and Director of Security in India’s Ministry of External Affairs. He also served as Deputy Director of the Intelligence Bureau, Principle Director in the Cabinet Secretariat’s Research and Analysis Wing, and judge. The narrative covers the author’s early life, his education, his training and responsibility as a police officer in the 1940’s, and policing during the early years of India’s independence. The discussion also focuses on his education in the United Kingdom, cooperation between Indian police and security officials and those of other governments, political instability during the 1990’s, the need to address corruption in politicians and the judiciary, and issues and events connected with India’s relationship with Pakistan.
