Abstract
Updated to reflect changes in law and practice, this manual is recommended reading for students of the Institute of Industrial Security. The discussion of professional standards covers the range of formal duties and describes professional bodies. Consideration of general security duties includes descriptions of in-house routine procedures designed to protect business property. A chapter is devoted to the components of patrolling security officers. Specific security procedures discussed are the protection of premises and alarm systems, searching, fire precautions, accident prevention, first aid, transfer of money and property, traffic control and parking vehicles, and the use of guard dogs. Chapters on law enforcement powers and involvement in criminal justice procedures cover powers of arrest, police procedure following private arrest, use of notebooks and reports, questioning and judges' rules, and evidence and court procedure. Discussions of law focus on general offenses against security, with special attention given to the law of theft and related offenses and Scottish law. Appended are samples of various types of security reports and a bomb threat checklist. A subject index is also provided.
