To assist security agencies in training their employees, this field training guide instructs security officers in performing their duties.
Abstract
A discussion of employment considerations addresses the employer/employee relationship, employee attitude and motivation, customer relations, and professional conduct. Instruction in interview techniques covers victim interviews, witness interviews, informant interviews, suspect interviews, and general interview considerations. Topics relevant to access control include a policy and procedure manual, staffing policy, management support, physical surroundings, lighting, communication equipment, reporting schedule, event log, and equipment required. A discussion of foot patrol covers clothing requirements, equipment inspection, special assignments, shopping complexes, apartment complex assignments, and construction sites. Among the issues considered in vehicle patrol are vehicle inspection, operators license, safe vehicle operations, patrol procedures, and general patrol techniques. Other topics discussed in major sections of the guide are crime scene containment, report writing, use of force and weaponry, field contacts, private police-public police partnership, effective communications, accountability, officer safety considerations, conflict resolution, arrest and control techniques, and the future of the private security industry.
