This report presents statistical information for drug seizures made by law enforcement agencies in England and Wales during 2006-2007.
Abstract
Highlights of the report include: (1) there were a record 186,028 drug seizures by police and HM Revenue and Customs in England and Wales in 2006-2007 compared with 161,113 in 2005, an increase of 15 percent; (2) there were increases in the number of seizures for all classes of drugs, seizures of class A drugs were up 10 percent since 2005, seizures involving class B drugs were up 15 percent, and seizures involving class C drugs were up 20 percent; and (3) cocaine and heroin were the most commonly seized class A drugs during this time period; there were 16,079 seizures of cocaine and 13,205 seizures of heroin. Prepared by the Home Office Research, Development and Statistics (RDS) office the statistics presented relate to all drugs controlled under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971, and cover seizures made during 2006-2007 by police, together with information from HM Revenue and Customs.
