This book presents criteria for drafting State legislation and presents model legislation to protect children from abduction and sexual exploitation.
Abstract
The information is intended for use by legislators, legal system professionals, criminal and juvenile justice personnel, educators, social services professionals, members of public and private agencies, and individual citizens. Topics addressed include missing children, the abduction of children by family members, prevention approaches, child sexual abuse, child pornography, child prostitution, juvenile witnesses, and general child protection issues. Specific topics include State information clearinghouses, data entry into the National Crime Information Center Missing Person File, cross-checks of school records, verification of student absences, and criminal and civil interference with custody. Additional topics include the screening of persons providing services to children, the registration of sex offenders, persons required to report child abuse, the appointment of a guardian ad litem for a child witness, children in the courtroom, videotaped testimony, confidential communications within child protection teams, and professional training of child protection workers.
