THE SELECTION CRITERIA FOR THE CORRECTIONAL PERSONNEL EMPLOYED BY THE MEXICAN STATE PENITENTIARY ARE DESCRIBED, TOGETHER WITH THE INSERVICE TRAINING TO WHICH THEY SHOULD BE EXPOSED.
Abstract
A BRIEF HISTORICAL OVERVIEW DESCRIBES THE SELECTION CRITERIA USED AT VARIOUS TIMES AND PLACES, WHICH WERE BASED MOSTLY ON PERSONAL OBSERVATION OF APPLICANTS. THE SCIENTIFIC TOOLS CURRENTLY AVAILABLE ARE THEN INTRODUCED, WITH ATTENTION TO THE PSYCHOMETRIC TESTS WHICH MEASURE INTELLIGENCE, KNOWLEDGE, PERSONALITY TYPE, AND ATTITUDES AND INTERVIEWS. QUALIFICATIONS AND DESIRABLE QUALITIES FOR CORRECTIONAL PERSONNEL, ESPECIALLY GUARDS, ARE ENUMERATED, WITH EMPHASIS ON THE NEED TO MEASURE THE QUALIFICATIONS THROUGH INTELLIGENCE AND PERSONALITY TESTS, AS ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS ARE USUALLY NOT AVAILABLE FOR THESE APPLICANTS. SUGGESTIONS FOR INSERVICE TRAINING CALL FOR COURSES OF LAW, CRIMINOLOGY, CRIMINALISTICS, CORRECTIONAL THEORY, PSYCHOLOGY, AND HUMAN RELATIONS THEORY, AS WELL AS TRAINING IN THE USE OF WEAPONS AND SELF-DEFENSE TECHNIQUES. OTHER SELECTION TOOLS, SUCH AS ENTRANCE EXAMINATIONS, ARE EXAMINED, AS ARE QUALIFICATIONS FOR ADMINISTRATIVE, TECHNICAL, AND INSTRUCTIONAL PERSONNEL. --IN SPANISH. (LGR
