RESULTS OF A SEMANTIC DIFFERENTIAL TEST ADMINISTERED TO 55 WHITE AND BLACK PRE-ADOLESCENT DELINQUENT BOYS, AGED SEVEN TO TWELVE, AS AN EXPLORATORY MEASURE OF SELFCONCEPT.
Abstract
OF THE CONCEPTS TESTED, ONLY ONE ATTAINED A SIGNIFICANT LEVEL OF DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE TWO GROUPS. 'BOYS WHO GET INTO TROUBLE' WAS PERCEIVED BY THE BLACK GROUP AS GENERALLY A MORE POSITIVE CONCEPT. THE RESULTS ARE DISCUSSED IN RELATION TO CURRENT SOCIAL FORCES WITHIN THE URBAN BLACK COMMUNITY. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT MODIFIED)
