Abstract
THE APPLICATION WAS MADE USING A SURVEY OF A SAMPLE OF WEST GERMAN JUDGES, POLICE, AND STUDENTS CONCERNING THEIR ASSESSMENT OF THE RELATIVE SERIOUSNESS OF CRIMES IN WEST GERMANY. ALSO PRESENTED IS A CRITIQUE OF THE SYSTEM OF CRIMINAL STATISTICS IN WEST GERMANY AS WELL AS A REVIEW OF OTHER STATISTICAL METHODS THAT HAVE ADDRESSED THE PROBLEM OF CORRECTING FOR THE DIFFERENTIAL SIGNIFICANCE OF CRIME CATEGORIES. --IN GERMAN
