ANALYSIS OF THE PSYCHO-SOCIOLOGICAL CAUSES OF MALADJUSTMENT IN OLD AGE, AGGRAVATED BY GENERATIONAL CONFLICTS IN SOCIETY DUE TO LONGER LIFE EXPECTANCY.
Abstract
THE FORCED RETIREMENT OF INDIVIDUALS STILL POSSESSING ADEQUATE WORKING CAPACITIES APPEARS TO ACT AS A DETERMINING CAUSE OF SENILE MALADJUSTMENT. AT THE SAME TIME, ECONOMIC FACTORS, EG. INSUFFICIENT PENSION REMUNERATION OR FAMILY SUPPORT, EXACERBATE AND PRECIPITATE THE PROCESS OF SOCIAL MALADAPTATION AND OFTEN, ALIENATION AMONG THE OLD. HAVING CONSIDERED SOME OF THE PSYCHIC AND PHYSIOLOGICAL DISTURBANCES CHARACTERISTIC OF OLD AGE, THE AUTHOR DEALS WITH THE MEDICO-FORENSIC CRITERIA FOR ASCRIBING CRIMINAL RESPONSIBILITY TO SENIOR OFFENDERS. THE STATISTICAL DATA PRESENTED SHOW THAT PROPERTY CRIMES AND CRIMES AGAINST PUBLIC MORALS ARE THE MOST COMMON TYPES OF OFFENSES AMONG OLD PEOPLE. DATA ALSO INDICATE THAT, IN COMPARISON TO OTHER AGE GROUPS, CRIME IS LESS FREQUENT AMONG THE OLD. IN THE LATTER PART OF THE ARTICLE, THE AUTHOR ILLUSTRATES SOME OF THE SPECIFIC CHARACTERISTICS OF CERTAIN FORMS OF NON-CRIMINAL ANTISOCIAL BEHAVIOR SUCH AS SUICIDE AND VAGRANCY. --IN ITALIAN
