Senior citizens are advised on crime prevention steps to improve personal, residential, and automobile security, as well as to counter particular con games and medical schemes.
Abstract
Specific advice is given on safety measures for elderly persons walking, living, and driving alone, for protecting one's purse, for dealing with suspicious persons, and for handling obscene phone calls. Elderly persons are cautioned on how to behave if a prowler is encountered and how to detect con artists -- phony bank examiners and home repairmen and persons involved in pigeon drop and medical schemes. Advice on selecting types of locks, doors and casings, windows, garages, and apartments for maximum security is given. Steps are described for what to do when away from home for a prolonged period of time.
