This report presents descriptive data on sentencing dispositions to the Maryland State correctional system and on the length of stay within State prison facilities for inmates released on parole or mandatory supervision.
Abstract
This is not a comprehensive picture of sentencing and release practices in Maryland as it does not include data on local jail intakes and releases or dispositions unsupervised by the agencies of the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services (e.g., fines only, probation to the court). The report does not attempt to analyze the data or compare jurisdictional differences, which would be of questionable value because of the lack of comparable local jail statistics and limitations within the State correctional information system. It does, however, provide a broad overview of intakes and releases in a format that allows criminal justice practitioners to examine data on jurisdictions of interest. Sentencing dispositions are presented by sentencing disposition in alphabetical order and release statistics in tables by sentencing jurisdiction. Tables, appendix
