This report presents statistics on homicide, rape, robbery, assault, burglary, motor vehicle theft, and larceny in Rhode Island in 1991.
Abstract
The data reveal that overall serious crime decreased by 5.7 percent from the previous year, following a 3.2 percent overall increase in 1990. However, violent crime increased by 6.7 percent. Homicide decreased by nearly 25 percent, rape offenses increased by 25 percent, and assaults increased by more than 9 percent. In 1990, violent crimes increased by 14 percent. The State experienced 37 homicides, 311 rapes, 1,225 robberies, 3,018 assaults, 11,326 burglaries, 26,666 larcenies, and 7,990 motor vehicle thefts in 1990. Statistics are provided for Providence, individual counties and cities, and the State as a whole; comparisons with the United States; the type of force used during the commission of violent crimes; domestic assault; hate crimes; and crime trends during the past 10 years.
