GUIDELINES FOR ON THE JOB TRAINING OF INDIVIDUALS INVOLVED IN THE PREVENTION OF CRIME AND THE TREATMENT OF OFFENDERS.
Abstract
THE AUTHOR SETS FORTH THE MAIN OBJECTIVE OF IN-SERVICE TRAINING AS PREPARING THE WORKER FOR THE MORE EFFECTIVE PERFORMANCE OF HIS TASK, WITH ATTENDANT BENEFIT TO THE INDIVIDUALS ENTRUSTED TO HIS CARE, TO THE ADMINISTRATION, TO HIMSELF AND, ULTIMATELY, TO THE COMMUNITY. IN VIEW OF THESE GOALS HE DISCUSSES SELECTION OF PERSONNEL, TYPES OF TRAINING, ORGANIZATION AND ADMINISTRATION OF TRAINING PROGRAMS, SPECIFIC CONTENT OF PROGRAMS, TRAINING METHODS, AND MEANS TO EVALUATE THE EFFECTIVENESS OF SUCH ENDEAVORS. THE ARTICLE CONCLUDES WITH A BRIEF LOOK AT STAFF MOTIVATION WITH SPECIFIC REGARD TO INCENTIVES FOR PROMOTING PARTICIPATION IN TRAINING PROGRAMS. AUTHOR ABSTRACT MODIFIED
