PROBATION OFFICERS CAN USE THE SOCIAL WORK CONCEPT OF 'SETTING THE CONTRACT' TO GIVE CLARITY TO THEIR ROLE AND AVOID THE DISILLUSIONMENT OF TRYING TO ACCOMPLISH THE IMPOSSIBLE.
Abstract
THREE TYPES OF CONTRACTS ARE DESCRIBED (THE BAREBONES LEGAL CONTRACT, THE COUNSELING CONTRACT, AND THE SUPPORTIVE RELATIONSHIP. IT IS IMPORTANT TO INCLUDE THE PROBATIONER IN THE CONTRACT.) ONCE THE TYPE OF CONTRACT IS DECIDED UPON, THE PROBATION OFFICER CAN DETERMINE THE NECESSARY AMOUNT OF TIME TO ALLOCATE FOR EACH CLIENT.
