Abstract
The author trains new sex crime investigators for the Kansas City, Mo., Police Department; conducts training sessions for other police agencies; and has 19 years of experience in sex crime investigations and 27 years of experience in the Kansas City Police Department. The text explains the selection of appropriate investigative personnel, evidence collection at crime scenes, the detection of false allegations of sexual victimization, and techniques for interviewing victims. It also details the use of task forces for investigating serial rapes, the interrogation of suspected sex offenders, the use of informants, interactions with victims of child sexual abuse, steps in handling child pornography and ritualistic sex crimes, and the development of solid cases for prosecution.
