AN EXAMINATION, UTILIZING QUESTIONNAIRE DATA FROM A LARGE SAMPLE OF BLACK AND WHITE ADOLESCENTS, OF THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN SEXUAL STATUS AND SELF-REPORTED DELINQUENT ACTION.
Abstract
OVERALL, FEMALES REPORTED CONSIDERABLY LESS DELINQUENT ACTIVITY THAN MALES. HOWEVER, WHEN CONTROLS FOR 'INTERVENING' SOCIOLOGICAL VARIABLES WERE IMPLEMENTED THROUGH MULTIVARIATE ANALYSIS AND MEASURES OF AN ADOLESCENT'S RELATIONSHIPS WITH PERSONS, VALUES, AND INSTITUTIONS, THE IMPACT OF SEXUAL STATUS WAS REDUCED CONSIDERABLY. SEVERAL SOCIOLOGICAL AND NONSOCIOLOGICAL INTERPRETATIONS ARE GIVEN FOR THE SMALL STATISTICALLY SIGNIFICANT RELATIONSHIP WHICH PERSISTED. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT MODIFIED)
