Therapists working with sex offenders, social workers investigating charges of incest, probation officers, and other professionals involved in child abuse work can use this handbook to find information about the characteristics of child molesters.
Abstract
The first section discusses intervention techniques and treatment records, their track record in affecting the behavior of sex offenders, and the use of a new risk assessment scale developed for evaluating the dangerousness of a molester. Treatment validation comes into play when a convicted sex offender, for example, tells his therapist that his arousal to children is under control and his marital relations are improving. Some methods of validation discussed here include penile plysmegraph, polygraph, and surprise home visits.
