Abstract
This publication provides articles on five issues: sex offenders in the Alaska Juvenile Justice System, housing in Seattle and Anchorage, proposed projects using recovery act funds, and prisoner reentry. The article on sex offenders looks at the characteristics of 29 juvenile sex offenders at the McLaughlin Youth Center who participated in the sex offender treatment program and were released during the period July 1, 2004 to June 20, 2007. The second article looks at the issue of the chronically homeless, which includes hard-to-house subpopulations in cities across the United States. The third article examines the first project in Anchorage based on "Housing First" principles which will focus on converting a Red Roof Inn into efficiency apartments for chronic inebriate homeless persons. The fourth article outlines Alaska's American Recovery and Reinvestment Act allocated dollars ($1.6 billion) for over 1,000 projects funded by 24 Federal agencies. And the fifth article explores the Alaska Prisoner Reentry Task Force, a subcommittee of the Criminal Justice Working Group which met in April 2010 to establish a work plan, identify major areas of focus, and create strategic work groups to address each area.
