Case studies of child sexual abuse are used to explain such topics as the characteristics of child molesters, the ways that children and families can prevent child sexual abuse, and steps to take after abuse occurs.
Abstract
The discussion emphasizes that most child sexual abuse is committed by a relative or someone the child knows and that children need to know how to protect themselves from becoming victims. It also notes that both boys and girls are the victims of child sexual abuse. It explains the nature and types of abuse and dispels myths surrounding the subject, including the views that most victims of child sexual abuse are attractive little girls, that sex offenders are usually lonely men who are not married, and that sexual abuse happens mostly at night. Index and extensive resource lists, including books and audiovisuals, sources of help, and regional and national organizations.
