Abstract
The author was accused of sexually assaulting a female patient and became involved in lengthy legal proceedings despite the lack of physical evidence. He eventually resigned from practicing psychiatry. The author discusses the lack of support he received from the American Psychiatry Association and other professional organizations, the effect of being falsely accused of sexual assault on family and friends, the role of insurance lawyers in legal proceedings, and the out-of-court settlement. The author proposes reforms to the judicial and social systems to eliminate existing incentives for making sexual accusations. He also examines the genesis and biological evolution of sexuality, the role of sexuality in the development of human concepts and cultures, social control, and the link between sexuality and individual and group violence. An appendix contains supplemental materials associated with the sexual assault case made against the author. References
