This CD contains resources, materials, visuals, and products for leaders to use in planning and implementing activities for Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM), April 2014, which focuses on healthy sexuality for youth as a foundation for preventing sexual violence.
Abstract
The CD provides tools that engage adults in supporting positive youth sexual development and encouraging youth to be activists for change in preventing sexual violence. The "Resources" section of the CD first presents an overview of the importance of healthy adolescent sexual development and its association with the prevention of sexual violence. This is followed by discussions of best practices for engaging youth as partners in sexual violence prevention; effective adult communication with youth about healthy sexuality and collaboration for sexual violence prevention; and youth as agents of social change. The CD's section on "Campaign Materials" includes tools for planning activities for Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM), a proclamation and sample letter to the editor, and factsheets on sexual violence prevention. The CD's section on "Campaign Visuals" contains SAAM logos in English and Spanish, along with other visuals and graphics. The CD's "Products" section contains photos and descriptions of campaign items for sale. Items include ear-bud pouches, USB drives, stickers, notebooks, magnets, buttons, re-usable bags, and dry-erase boards. The CD's section on "Day of Action" suggests activities for April 1 that will launch the activities planned for the month, including SAAM's theme on healthy sexuality and how it prevents sexual violence.
