THIS PAPER DESCRIBES NECESSARY PROCEDURES FOR SETTING UP AND OPERATING A WORKSHOP ON SEXUAL ASSAULT.
Abstract
A PERIOD OF AT LEAST 6 HOURS SHOULD BE ALLOTTED FOR WORKSHOPS TO ADEQUATELY COVER THE VARIOUS SEGMENTS OF A SEXUAL ASSAULT, AND ENOUGH TIME SHOULD BE SCHEDULED SO THAT EACH PERSON INVOLVED AS A LEADER WILL BE ABLE TO PRESENT THE TALK AND ANSWER QUESTIONS FOLLOWING THE PRESENTATION, THE PROCEEDINGS SHOULD BE RECORDED AND WRITTEN COPIES MADE AVAILABLE. THE WORKSHOP SHOULD PREFERABLY BEGIN AT 9 A.M. WITH THREE PRESENTATIONS; A QUESTION-AND-ANSWER PERIOD COULD BE SCHEDULED BEFORE LUNCH BREAK AND TWO PRESENTATIONS AND AN OPEN DISCUSSION AFTER LUNCH BREAK. SUGGESTED SPEAKERS FOR THE WORKSHOP INCLUDE SPEAKERS FROM THE INVESTIGATION DIVISION OF THE LOCAL POLICE DEPARTMENT; AN EMERGENCY ROOM PHYSICIAN; A PSYCHIATRIC SOCIAL WORKER; A REPRESENTATIVE FROM THE PROSECUTORS OFFICE, A CRIMINAL COURT ATTORNEY, AND A PSYCHOLOGIST FROM THE DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS. A SUGGESTED SCHEDULE FOR THE WORKSHOP IS GIVEN ALONG WITH A RECOMMENDED PRESENTATION FORMAT AND TOPICS FOR EXTENDED WORKSHOPS.(MJW)
