REPORT ON A STUDY CONDUCTED TO DETERMINE THE EXTENT OF SEXUAL ASSAULTS IN THE THREE FACILITIES OF THE PHILADELPHIA PRISON SYSTEM DURING THE TIME PERIOD OF JUNE 1966 TO JULY 31, 1968.
Abstract
THE INVESTIGATORS INTERVIEWED 3,304 INMATES AND 561 OUT OF 570 CUSTODIAL EMPLOYEES AS WELL AS SEVERAL PEOPLE BELIEVED BY THEM TO HAVE SPECIAL INFORMATION. ALL OF THE REPORTS DEALING WITH HOMOSEXUALITY ISSUED BY THE RRISON SYSTEM SINCE JUNE 1966 WERE REVIEWED. DETAILED INSPECTIONS OF PRISON AND SHERIFF'S FACILITIES WERE MADE. THE GROUP FOUND THAT SEXUAL ASSAULTS IN THE PHILADELPHIA PRISON SYSTEM ARE EPIDEMIC. A FEW CASE STUDIES WHICH ARE SAID TO BE TYPICAL ASSAULTS ARE INCLUDED.
