Statistics on sexual assaults in Wisconsin reported to law enforcement in 1985 cover victim and offender characteristics, assault characteristics, relationships between victim and offender, and arrests and dispositions.
Abstract
The report breaks the 4,875 reported sexual assaults for 1985 into the four degrees of seriousness specified by State statutes, noting that most were either first or second degree and that 18 percent were rapes. Age, sex, and race are detailed for both victims and offenders. Statistics on the assaults' characteristics address location, time of day and year, use of weapon, and victim injury. Data on victim-offender relationships reveal that the majority of all types of sexual assaults were perpetrated by someone known to the victim. Arrest and disposition information is given for all four degrees of assault. The report breaks down sexual assaults by county and compares 1984 and 1985 data. Graphs, tables, State statutes, and the data collection form are included.
