This report presents data on the estimated 6,564 sexual assaults reported to Wisconsin police agencies during 1994 and includes information on the following categories: forcible rape, forcible sodomy, assault with an object, forcible fondling, and statutory rape.
Abstract
The number of reported sexual assaults declined 12.7 percent from 1993. Forcible fondling accounted for 52 percent of all reported cases. However, 33 percent were the most serious offenses: forcible rape, forcible sodomy, or assault with an object. Ninety percent of the assaults were perpetrated by someone known to the victim; an offender was arrested in 57.5 percent of all cases. Sexual assaults occurred most often in the summer; 55 percent took place in either the victim's or offender's home. Seventy-four percent of the victims were juveniles; 4 percent had serious physical injuries. The offender's average age was 25, which was 10 years older than the average victim. Ninety-four percent of the offenders were male; 72 percent were white. Figures, tables, and methodological index and forms
