Data and percentages are summarized from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC's) 2011 National Intimate Partner and Sexual Violence Survey.
Abstract
Percentages are reported for both men and women who have been raped in their lifetimes, as well as percentages who have experienced some form of sexual violence during their lifetimes. For both men and women, percentages who have experienced sexual violence other than rape are reported by sexual orientation (heterosexual, same sex, and bisexual). Percentages are also reported for the offender's prior relationship with female victims who were raped (acquaintance, intimate partner, stranger, family member, authority figure). The same types of offender relationships are reported for male victims who experienced sexual violence other than rape. Percentages are reported for racial/ethnic groups who were victims of sexual violence (men and women victims reported separately by race/ethnicity) and rape (only for women). The racial/ethnic groups included are multiracial, Native-American, Black, White, Hispanic, and Asian/Pacific Islander. Percentages are reported for female rape victims in various age groups at the time of first rape.
