This article offers descriptive information on several knives and multi-tools available to law enforcement officers through a variety of manufacturers.
Abstract
Today’s police officers sometimes carry an all-purpose tool for use in their daily routine that includes a knife and more. In addition, with more police officers becoming trained in knife defense training, knives are also being carried as backup weapons. Choosing a quality knife or multi-tool with an enforceable warranty is essential for a law enforcement officer. Several manufacturers present descriptive information, such as style, quality, cost and usefulness on their various knives and all-purpose tools. When selecting a knife, it is suggested that the purchaser look for quality gauge steel with a proven track record. Some police officers require a knife that can be deployed with one hand and are easy to conceal, open and use. Products can also be developed to meet the specific needs of a special unit. Training knives are also available from various manufacturers that consist of aluminum blades. These knives have a realistic look and are considered safe; they have dull edges. Multi-tools employ features that make sense for law enforcement. These tools typically have a set of pliers as the central tool with other tools that flip out. They are tools that fold down to a small and slim size making them practical for officers. There is an awareness that since these tools and knives are used by law enforcement in emergency situations, they need to be easy and safe to use.
