REPORT OF FIRST-YEAR ACTIVITIES OF A COMMUNITY-BASED EXTENSION OF THE JUVENILE COURT-PROBATION OFFICER WHICH USES PROFESSIONAL STAFF AND TRAINED VOLUNTEERS TO COORDINATE TREATMENT SERVICES FOR JUVENILE OFFENDERS.
Abstract
DURING THE FIRST YEAR THE PROGRAM EMPHASIZED ESTABLISHING A BROAD-BASED DIRECT SERVICE TREATMENT PROGRAM WHICH INCLUDED THE FOLLOWING SERVICES: INDIVIDUAL AND FAMILY COUNSELING, SHORT-TERM, NON-SECURE DETENTION AND SHELTER CARE SERVICES, TEMPORARY HOME PLACEMENT, COMMUNITY EDUCATION AND CONSULTATION SERVICES, VOLUNTEER SERVICES, AND REFERRAL AND INFORMATION SERVICES. THIS REPORT PRESENTS THE SHELTER HOUSE PHILOSOPHY AND OBJECTIVES, AND DESCRIBES ITS TREATMENT PLANNING PROCESS AND VARIOUS TREATMENT ACTIVITIES AND SERVICES. CASE MANAGEMENT AND STAFF SUPERVISION AND TRAINING ARE EXPLAINED AS WELL AS THE PROGRAM'S EVALUATION AND RESEARCH PROJECT. A STATISTICAL REVIEW OF THE PROGRAM'S 201 ACTIVE CLIENTS DURING THE FIRST YEAR IS INCLUDED. THE REPORT CONCLUDES WITH PRESENTATIONS OF THE PROGRAM'S USE OF PROFESSIONAL CONSULTANTS AND VOLUNTEERS, TREATMENT SERVICES FOR DRUG CLIENTS, AND PUBLIC RELATIONS.
