The development and implementation of a shock incarceration program in Louisiana is described.
Abstract

This is a new type of alternative to incarceration involving a short period of imprisonment in a "boot camp" type atmosphere. In Louisiana this is followed by three phases of intensive parole supervision. The program is examined in regard to its rehabilitative potential and compared to the elements of successful rehabilitation programs identified in recent reviews of the literature. (Author abstract)
