LEAA IS DETERMINED THAT CORRECTIONS WILL RECEIVE ITS APPROPRIATE SHARE OF FUNDS TO BE USED TO EXPAND PROBATION AND IMPROVE CORRECTIONAL FACILITIES.
Abstract
ON THE BASIS OF ITS STUDY OF THE STATE PLANS, LEAA HAS CONCLUDED THAT THE FIELD OF PROBATION OFFERS THE BEST OPPORTUNITY FOR IMMEDIATE, VISIBLE IMPROVEMENT IN THE CORRECTIONAL PROCESS. LEAA HAS ALSO BEEN ASSIGNED THE TASK OF DEVELOPING A NEW KIND OF JAIL. THE NEW JAIL WOULD BE MORE THAN A DETENTION FACILITY, IT WOULD BE A COMMUNITY FACILITY THAT WOULD PROVIDE FOR ALL TYPES OF DIAGNOSTIC RESOURCES FOR THE COURTS SUCH AS PROBATION FACILITIES, SPACE FOR COMMUNITY RESIDENTIAL CENTERS, COUNSELING, AND CLASSROOM AND MEDICAL FACILITIES.
