This chronology identifies major incidents of political violence targeting U.S. citizens and interests that occurred in 1996.
Abstract
The selection of incidents is based on the following criteria: lethality, substantial property damage, use of unusual tactics or weapons, and perceptibility of targets as U.S. or representative of U.S. interests. The chronology shows 92 of 109 incidents involving U.S. citizens and interests in 1996 specifically targeted Americans. Incidents are classified according to region of the world: Inter-America; Sub-Saharan Africa, East Asia and the Pacific, Europe, and Near East and South Asia.
