THIS REPORT DISCUSSES THE JUDICIAL INFORMATION PRESENTLY COLLECTED BY STATES AND THE TECHNIQUES USED TO COLLECT IT. IT IS DESIGNED FOR USE BY THE STATE JUDICIAL INFORMATION SYSTEMS PROJECT COMMITTEE IN ITS WORK.
Abstract
THE REPORT DOES NOT PURPORT TO BE A DEFINITIVE INVESTIGATION OF STATE JUDICIAL INFORMATION SYSTEMS, SINCE INTENSIVE FIELD VISITS WERE CONDUCTED IN ONLY THE ELEVEN PROJECT STATES; HOWEVER, THE AUTHORS BELIEVE IT TO BE A REASONABLY ACCURATE PRESENTATION OF THE CURRENT STATE OF JUDICIAL INFORMATION SYSTEMS AT THE STATE LEVEL THROUGHOUT THE COUNTRY. APPROACHES TO DEFINING INFORMATION REQUIREMENTS AND NEEDS ARE CONSIDERED, ALONG WITH A SUMMARY OF DEVELOPMENTS IN COMPUTERIZED TRIAL COURT INFORMATION SYSTEMS. A REVIEW OF SOME OF THE POLICY ISSUES CREATED BY ADVANCED JUDICIAL INFORMATION SYSTEMS IS ALSO INCLUDED.
