EXAMINATION OF THE COMPLEXITY OF SECURITY FOR HIGH RISE FACILITIES, AND RECOMMENDATIONS FOR THE ADOPTION OF SOUND SECURITY PROGRAMS.
Abstract
THE AUTHOR STATES THAT THE SECURITY FUNCTION SHOULD BE DELEGATED TO A PROFESSIONAL SECURITY SPECIALIST WITH AN APPROPRIATELY WELL TRAINED SECURITY FORCE AND A DETAILED PROGRAM. A DIRECT-DIAL EMERGENCY NUMBER SHOULD BE ESTABLISHED FOR ALL TENANTS, AND TWO-WAY COMMUNICATIONS SYSTEMS SHOULD BE PROVIDED FOR THE SECURITY DIVISION. CONTROL SHOULD BE PROVIDED FOR ALL ENTRY AND EXIT POINTS, INCLUDING FIRE STAIRWELLS. THE AUTHOR RECOMMENDS THE USE OF LOBBY CONTROL BY RECEPTIONISTS AND ELECTRONIC ALARM SYSTEMS. KEY CONTROL WITH FLOOR MASTER KEYS AND GRAND MASTER KEYS IS RECOMMENDED. VICE, GAMBLING, AND NARCOTICS ACTIVITIES SHOULD BE CONTROLLED BY CONSTANT OBSERVATION AND PROMPT REPORTING TO THE AUTHORITIES. CLEANING PERSONNEL SHOULD BE WATCHED FOR THEFT AND UNAUTHORIZED USE OF COMPANY PHONES. FINALLY, THE SECURITY OF MAIL ROOMS, VAULTS, PURCHASING DEPARTMENTS, AND PERSONNEL CHECKS SHOULD BE CLOSELY OBSERVED BY THE BUILDING SECURITY ORGANIZATION.
