Following a chapter on the demographics of Slovenia, this booklet describes the criminal law, procedures, and policies and structures of the country's criminal justice system components.
Abstract
The brief section on demographics addresses population size, minimum age of criminal responsibility, the size of age groups, ethnic groups and native nationalities represented in the population, employment, and urbanization. A chapter on procedural law statutes encompasses the history of the code of criminal procedure and the special procedure for juvenile offenders. A chapter on the court system and law enforcement considers the history of the court system's organization and statutes that regulate the organization of the police, the bar, the prison, and the probation agency. Another chapter covers the fundamental principles of criminal law and procedure, with attention to offense classification, juveniles and adult offenders, corporate responsibility, statutes of limitations, and the structure of the criminal code. A chapter is devoted to the organization of the detection and investigation of crime, the organization of the prosecution agency, and the organization of the courts. The victim's role in case processing is also described in this chapter. Remaining chapters address sentencing and the system of sanctions, conditional and/or suspended sentences and probation, the prison system and aftercare for released ex-offenders, reform plans, and statistics and research results on crime and criminal justice. 9 tables and a 7-item bibliography
