Emphasizing that crime prevention is the best type of business insurance, this cassette emphasizes prevention of external threats to businesses, such as burglary, robbery, forgery, and credit card fraud.
Abstract
The information is intended for small or medium-size retail or manufacturing businesses. A definition of burglary, characteristics of burglars, and strategies for reducing burglaries are discussed. The cassette emphasizes burglary protection through upgraded door and window security, choice of the most appropriate alarm system, good lighting, key control, and the proper use of a safe. The cassette also emphasizes special procedures to follow during a burglary, such as notifying the police, preserving physical evidence, estimating damage, completing a supplementary crime report, and avoiding publicity. Precautions to take to prevent bad checks and credit cards are outlined, and opening, closing, and emergency notification systems are explained. In addition, the cassette emphasizes the importance of rehearsing employee procedures to use during a robbery, such as remaining calm, obeying orders, noting the physical characteristics of robbers, and telephoning for help only when it is safe. Robbery loss reduction techniques are also given, such as making frequent and random bank deposits.
