Annotation
The Swedish Code of Statutes includes the Smuggling of Goods (Punishments) Act; passed in 1961, the first section of the act stipulates that any person who imports or exports goods without notifying the proper authority will be sentenced for smuggling to a fine or imprisonment for up to 2 years.
Abstract
Other sections of the act mandate a summary fine for petty offenses and 6 months to 6 years for grave offenses. In judging whether an offense is grave, particular consideration must be paid to whether the offense was committed professionally or involved goods of a great quantity or value and to whether the offense caused danger. Drug smuggling offenses include those related to negligence and those in which a person acquires, conveys, conceals, keeps, or offers for sale smuggled goods. The act covers goods concealed in ships, aircraft, and trains; notes any attempt to smuggle goods is punishable under Chapter 23 of Sweden's Penal Code; and stipulates goods and conveyances can be subject to forfeiture.
