A DESCRIPTION OF THE FACILITIES, STAFF, AND PROGRAMS OF THIS RESIDENTIAL TREATMENT CENTER WHICH PROVIDES PSYCHIATRIC HELP FOR EMOTIONALLY DISTURBED TEENAGERS RESIDING IN SONOMA COUNTY.
Abstract
CHERRY STREET HOUSE OPERATES AS A PRIVATE, NON-PROFIT CORPORATION UNDER SOCIAL ADVOCATES FOR YOUTH, INC. THE PURPOSE OF SOCIAL ADVOCATES IS TO WORK WITH ADOLESCENTS IN THE COMMUNITY. THE HOUSE IS LOCATED ADJACENT TO THE CENTRAL BUSINESS DISTRICT OF SANTA ROSA. THERE ARE FACILITIES FOR BOTH BOYS AND GIRLS. STAFF AT THE HOUSE INCLUDE A PSYCHIATRIST, A PSYCHOLOGIST, A DIRECTOR, HOUSE PARENTS, COUNSELORS, A FLOATING COUNSELOR, AND NIGHT PERSONNEL. THE MAIN PROGRAM AT CHERRY STREET HOUSE IS THE STEP PROGRAM, A FOUR PHASE SYSTEM THROUGH WHICH RESIDENTS MUST PROGRESS. ADVANCEMENT THROUGH THE STEPS REQUIRES INCREMENTAL GAINS IN ONE'S CAPACITY TO ASSUME RESPONSIBILITY. WITH ATTAINMENT OF HIGHER LEVELS OF RESPONSIBILITY, RESIDENTS ARE REWARDED BY ADVANCEMENT TO A STEP WHICH ALLOWS GREATER FREEDOM TO ENGAGE IN SELF-FULFILLING ACTIVITIES. OTHER TREATMENT PROGRAMS INCLUDE INDIVIDUALIZED TREATMENT AND FAMILY COUNSELING. ALSO DISCUSSED IN THIS REPORT ARE HOUSE RULES, DISCIPLINE, EDUCATION, AND EVENING ACTIVITIES.
