COMPARISON OF CHARACTERISTICS OF PAROLEES, GOOD-TIME RELEASEES, AND EXPIRATION OF SENTENCE RELEASEES.
Abstract
THE 480 CASES USED FOR THIS STUDY ARE BROKEN DOWN INTO THE THREE GROUPS, WITH DATA BEING OBTAINED FROM THE INSTITUTIONAL FOLDER OF EACH INMATE. THE PAROLEE WAS SLIGHTLY OLDER AND MORE LIKELY TO BE MARRIED THAN THE OTHER RELEASEES. HE WAS ALSO MORE LIKELY TO HAVE BEEN CONVICTED OF A CRIME AGAINST THE PERSON. THE GOOD-TIME RELEASEE WAS SLIGHTLY OLDER THAN THE AVERAGE FOR THE ENTIRE GROUP OF RELEASEES. THE EXPIRATION OF SENTENCE RELEASEE WAS MORE LIKELY TO BE A NARCOTIC USER AND TO HAVE COMMITTED A CRIME AGAINST PROPERTY THAN THE OTHER TWO GROUPS. THE TYPICAL RELEASEE WAS A NEGRO IN HIS EARLY THIRTIES, UNMARRIED PRIOR TO INCARCERATION, PREVIOUSLY EMPLOYED IN SEMI-SKILLED OR UNSKILLED WORK IN CONSTRUCTION OR SERVICE INDUSTRIES.
