Abstract
THE BOOK CONSISTS OF PAPERS PRESENTED AT NEW YORK UNIVERSITY IN 1971, AND A REVIEW AND DISCUSSION OF LITERATURE DEALING WITH EACH OF THE SOCIAL DISABILITIES. THE BASIC CONCEPT IS THAT THERE ARE SOCIAL FACTORS WHICH CONTRIBUTE TO THE PROBLEMS STUDIED, AND, CONSEQUENTLY, THERE IS A NEED FOR SOCIAL AS WELL AS INDIVIDUAL SOLUTIONS. MOST OF THE LITERATURE PRESENTED COMES FROM THE FIELDS OF PSYCHOLOGY, SOCIAL WORK, AND REHABILITATION. A CASE HISTORY INVOLVING EACH OF THE PROBLEMS IS PRESENTED.
